Four injured in major accident on I-80 that shut down eastbound freeway

Four were injured in a major accident that shutdown the eastbound I-80 for several hours on Monday.

The accident occurred between I-280 and Northwest Blvd. Monday morning.

One driver was airlifted after becoming trapped in his semi before crews were able to free him.

Traffic was rerouted down I-280 to bypass the accident. The left lane was temporarily reopened to allow traffic through between I-280 and the accident.

Shortly after, all eastbound lanes on the freeway were reopened.

Traffic for a short time was also jammed on the westbound as first responders were parked on the left shoulder of the westbound near the accident. The Traffic Authority's TrafficTRACKER showed significant delays as traffic moved at 14 mph on the westbound.

Officials say the accident was a secondary accident caused by traffic avoiding to slow down for an accident ahead at Brady St.
