OPINION: Justin Bieber saves Christmas

On Nov. 1, 2011, my world was forever changed with the release of Justin Bieber’s iconic Christmas album “Under the Mistletoe.” My babysitter burned a CD of the album for me, and I listened to it every single day on my way to school. While I wouldn’t call myself the most dedicated Justin Bieber fan, six years later I can confidently say that this is one of my favorite Christmas albums to date.

With its infectious beat and catchy lyrics, Bieber never fails to make me feel more spirited towards the holiday season in general. With the increasing stress of Christmas commercialism, it can be easy to fall into an emotional rut during the winter months. You may be dreading the family holiday gatherings, finding the perfect gift for a friend or loved one, or simply finding the perfect coffee shop hot chocolate to enjoy while doing homework or watching your favorite holiday movies.

Bieber also collaborates with several other artists on the album. One of my favorites, “Fa La La,” is accompanied by R&B group Boyz II Men. Songs featuring Mariah Carey (“All I Want for Christmas is You - Superfestive!”), Busta Rhymes (“Drummer Boy”), and The Band Perry (“Home this Christmas”) also add variety to the album. Other tracks I enjoy listening to are “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “Mistletoe,” and “Christmas Eve.”

“Under the Mistletoe” is available for streaming on Spotify and for purchase on Amazon. I would highly recommend this album to anyone looking to get into the holiday spirit.
