Family Museum dancers show their holiday spirit

The holiday season is on its way, and the Family Museum dance company shared its Christmas spirit with a Polar Express themed dance performance at Winterfest Dec. 3. The show consisted of three dances, telling the story through various styles like ballet and tap.

Winterfest is a holiday event put on by the Family Museum, where guests can make crafts, meet Santa, and watch the dance company perform. The dancers started working on the show in October.

Junior Jordan Bayles performed in a tap piece to the song “Hot Chocolate” used in the movie.

“I really liked the theme of the show; the ‘Polar Express’ was one of my favorite Christmas movies when I was a kid so it is extra special and exciting to be performing it,” Bayles said.

Seniors Emily Kidwell and Ashley Bodkin also danced in the show.

“My Winterfest dance was a ballet piece set at the end of the ‘Polar Express’ when the young boy receives the first gift of Christmas,” Kidwell said.

Because it was Kidwell and Bodkin’s senior year, this was their last Winterfest.

“I have always liked dancing in Winterfest because we get to listen to Christmas music all the time, and it puts me in the holiday spirit,” Bodkin said.

The dance company will also be performing their show Dec. 10 at ‘Tis the Season, a free holiday celebration for senior citizens held at the Waterfront Convention Center.
