The holidays are a very exciting time of year; however, many people lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas: giving back. Here is a list of things you can do to give back to the community during the most festive time of the year.
Write a letter to a soldier. Send a letter to a soldier overseas who is unable to come home for the holidays. Thank them for their service and how you appreciate the great sacrifices they are making. Learn how to send your letter here.
Leave a letter for the mail carrier. Wish your mail carrier a happy holiday and let them know that you are thankful for their hard work during this busy season.
Visit a nursing home. Some residents do not receive visitors during the holidays and can feel very lonely. Help make their day by spending an hour or two talking with them and playing games.
Donate to Salvation Army. During this time of year you can find volunteers ringing a bell outside grocery stores all over the community, collecting money for Salvation Army. Any amount of money can help make a difference.
Donate to the local food bank. If you missed out on donating to the hunger drive or would like to donate again, donate to the local food bank. Your donation can be monetary or non-perishable foods like canned vegetables and whole grain pasta.
