Girls swim ends strong

The girls swimming and diving team followed up their great season last year with an even better one this year. The team had various accomplishments and new experiences to bring them closer together. Senior Eve Berg was just one of the multiple people who qualified for the state tournament and loved the new experiences that came from the season.

“We did a lot of new things this year; we had new cheers, and we sang the national anthem, and even though it didn’t sound the best it was still really fun to do,” Berg said.

Along with new experiences in the social aspect, freshman Sydney Hanson had new experiences with competing in high school.

“This season exceeded my expectations because everyone was so positive for me, and I didn’t really know what to expect from the season. Everyone just kept telling me that I would be fine and that I have nothing to worry about, and it was just really nice having people there and encouraging me,” Hanson said.

Even though Hanson is a freshman she did not fail to dominate in the pool. She won the regional title with a personal best of 463.55 for all 11 dives, and moved into place fourth at the state competition.

“Getting first at regionals was my proudest moment because it didn’t really click that I had actually worked really hard during the season but regionals is kind of where it just sank in,” Hanson said.

The team went on the win the varsity and junior varsity conference matches and won regionals for the second year in a row. As the state tournament came to a finish, the girls swim team placed fourth overall.
