Months of perfecting vocals, cleaning choreography, and fine-tuning every small detail all leads to this moment; the start of show choir competition season.
On Jan. 27, Bettendorf’s varsity group, Surround Sound, and prep group, Audio Intensity, will head to The Big Dance at Davenport North High School to kick off their competition season. In addition to North, Bettendorf will also head to Benton, El Paso-Gridley, and Marion, as well as hosting a home competition, Rhythm on the Riverbend, for a second year.
This year, members are looking forward to many things during the season.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how people react to our show because of how different it is and the message it brings,” said senior Surround Sound member Leah Evans.
Others are looking forward to finally getting to take the stage.
Junior Maddie Pessman said, “For me, the best part of competing is walking off stage knowing that I did my best and feeling accomplished for it.”
The Big Dance starts at 8 a.m. with Audio Intensity taking the stage at 8:25 a.m. Surround Sound is the seventh varsity group to perform during the day and will perform at 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Concessions will also be available.
