Join Publications to make an impact

Publications produces the yearbook and The Bettendorf Growl, including the newspaper and online articles.

The class for next year is really small, and to produce quality publications, more students are needed to fill the class.

Students do a variety of activities in class; taking photos is one of the main activities.

Attending events both in and out of school, students take photos of clubs, sports, classroom activities and candids.

Photos are particularly important for the yearbook--without photos, there can be no stories in the yearbook.

Once the photos are taken, students edit the photos with Photoshop and either upload them to the yearbook server or store the photos for The Growl.

Students write the yearbook stories and stories for the Growl, write captions, design yearbook templates and spreads, and proof stories and pages.

Interviews build the stories students write; interviews are with students, administrators, coaches, teaches and individuals outside the school.

A new endeavor started by the Publications staff last is a talk show called “New Day.” The hosts interview students involved in activities throughout the school, then the show is posted to the The Growl's website.

A lot of opportunities are available in Publications: writing, designing, photography, editing, and, of course, the “PPC”--the “party planning committee” which takes care of holidays and special occasions (birthdays). Publications is a “real-world” class--students create a product from scratch, promote and sell it to fellow students as well as to people outside the school.
