The girls and boys soccer teams are kicking off their regular season conference games tonight, April 3, against Davenport North.
The boys play at home starting at 7:30, and the girls play at North starting at 4:30.
“We are expecting nothing less than a dog fight. Considering that we’ve won the conference championship the past two years and haven’t lost a conference game for two seasons, we know that we are going to get everybody’s best, so we will have to be ready,” senior captain Brant Mueller said.
Both teams have been training all fall and winter in preparation for the season.
“We’ve been working really hard technically and in the weight room this pre-season to give us a competitive edge this year,” senior Justine Pearson said.
The past few years, both teams have been very successful and go far into the postseason.
“We placed third at state this past season so at a bare minimum, we expect a state run. Like any team, we want to win it all,” senior Zach Elias said.
With many non-conference schools in the teams’ schedules this season, they will have some tough competition.
“We have a hard tournament this weekend against Iowa City West and Ames, the defending state champions, at Bettendorf. We also have Ankeny Centennial later this season, so all of those teams will show up to play, but we’ll be ready,” senior Eleanor Drexler said.
