Bulldog Profile: Sarah Rogers

Building robots is a unique way to spend time, but junior Sarah Rogers wouldn’t have it any other way. Being a robotics team member is part of Rogers’ interest in STEM, a field dominated by men. Rogers has accomplished much in her STEM career and has more planned for the future.

Rogers leads the robotics team to record ideas, inventions, and observations into the engineering notebook. At the end of the year, the team presents the engineering notebook to a panel of experts. During the 2017-2018 school year, the team made an appearance in the state semi-final.

“She spent countless hours working on the engineering notebook for our team,” said Justin Nock, U-Bett Robotics captain.

Rogers’ next project with the robotics team is the creation of a Unified Robotics team, a robotics program that will allow people of all different abilities to be a part of STEM. Best Buddies programs around the Quad Cities are working with Rogers to create equal opportunity in STEM.

Fellow robotics member Tienna Trettin said, “I love how committed Sarah is when she is given a task! She always puts her best effort towards it and never makes excuses.”

She challenges herself with her courseload. Her latest academic challenge has been AP Computer Science, taught by Rebecca Carton. “Sarah sets the tone for my class everyday. She always asks questions and leads class discussions.” said Carton.

In addition to robotics, Rogers is involved in varsity softball, NHS, and FCCLA.
