Bettendorf overwhelms Burlington in 65-0 victory

On Friday, Sept. 28, the Bulldogs defeated fellow MAC opponent, Burlington 65 to 0 in a blowout.
The Bulldogs got started right away with a 74-yard touchdown run from Austin Kalar early in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs quickly added to their lead with a 28-yard field goal from senior kicker, Keegan Schmidt.
Before the first quarter was over the Bulldogs scored again on a 6-yard touchdown run from Austin Kalar.
The Bulldogs scored four times in the second quarter with another running touchdown from Kalar, two passing touchdowns from Carter Bell to Noah Abbott and Darien Porter, and also a defensive touchdown off a fumble recovery.
The Bulldogs entered halftime with an impressive 44 to 0 lead, the defense for Bettendorf not allowing a single point.
It was the same story in the second half for the Bulldogs although changing up the lineup a bit.
There were three rushing touchdowns for Bettendorf in the second half by running backs AJ Douglas, Kane Schmidt, and Ryan Cole.
The final score of the game resulted in a 65-point win for the Bulldogs, marking their second win in a row.
“The goal this year is a state championship. If you are not playing to win, you are not playing the right way,” cornerback Dylan Estlund said.
Bettendorf is now 5-1 and will play Cedar Rapids Kennedy Friday, Oct. 5, at home. This will be senior night for Bettendorf.
