Marching Band earns Division I rating

After months of perfecting their music, their movements, and their use of props, marching band achieved a Division I Superior rating at the IHSMA State marching band contest on Oct. 13. Matthew Winder, one of the drum majors, assisted in choosing “Phantom of the Opera” for the show.

Believing that the band’s goal setting was key to their success, Tienna Trettin, who plays the marimba in the pit, also said that the wind made their performance a little difficult. Despite needing to be completely covered by a tarp to perform his disappearing act, Winder claimed that he was still able to see people at certain times due to the wind blowing everything around, and he even was hit once or twice by the little metal rings on the ends of the tarp.

Although the show was ambitious with its use of many props, the risk proved fruitful with Trettin, who said, “In the end, I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished.”
