If you are a fan of Bettendorf football, you have probably seen the Bettendorf drumline light a fire under the student section during the halftime of home football games. Led by senior and section leader Stuart Swearingen, the drumline has made itself a staple in the school.

“The drumline has done a great job at getting everyone hype during the football games. When they play ‘Yeezus’, the student section goes wild,” senior Alex Springer said.

Although the general public knows the drumline best for their football performances, students have felt the greater impact that the drummers have on the school, as students can also enjoy the drumline at pep assemblies, in the hallways on Homecoming week, and at basketball games.

Outside of school, the drumline takes part in local events, including annual performances at Run with Carl and Mark Twain’s Wellness walk.

Additionally, the drumline performs with the Marching Band. During the marches, the drumline’s role is to keep a steady tempo for the rest of the band. On Oct. 13, the band received a Division I rating at the state competition.

The members of drumline enjoy their roles on the team and advocate others to try out percussion.

“I have been in drumline for three years now and love every bit of it. Drumline has always been special to me even as a kid watching from the stands. To now get to be apart of such an amazing group makes me very grateful,” Jake Hornbuckle said.
