Bowling team ready for the season

The bowling team began their 2018-2019 season on Nov. 19 at Bowlmor Lanes in Davenport. The team has been practicing since the end of October and is ecstatic to hit the lanes and take gold.

“The team is grinding really hard. We practice at the bowling alley every Tuesday and Friday after school and have lifting every Wednesday and Friday morning. We also occasionally have additional practices at the school to work on technique,” Alana Ford said.

The 2017-2018 season ended at the Rose Bowl with the team earning a collective score of 2,416 points between the two games.

The team had a blast at last year’s meets and the anticipation is propelling the team forward to do just as well.

“I’m excited for meets because you get really close with your team. We are super close, everyone cheers each other on and we are always encouraged to bowl and talk to people we don’t really know,” Ford said.

The bowling community is extremely supportive and is just a fun way for people to get involved in the school if they’re not interested in other sports.

“People say that bowling is a dying sport, but it’s actually getting bigger,” Maurice Wynn said. “Bowling is so much fun, and I would recommend people should try it out,” Malaki Bergeson said.

Tryouts are held at the beginning of November, and the coaches look at scores and attitude. “I don’t believe there were any cuts this year, so you have a pretty good chance if you try out,” Clarah Buhman said.

The team has 11 meets this year, seven away and four at home.

The season is looking promising with the first meet resulting in an overall score of 2,323 points.
