Bett Valley Rally promotes friendly competition and raises money

There is a strong rivalry between the Bettendorf Bulldogs and the Pleasant Valley Spartans, and the Bett Valley Rally is no exception. The Bett Valley Rally wasn’t just about the two schools duking it out for another trophy. It was about who could raise the most money for the food bank.
On Saturday, Feb. 9, 16 teams battled it out. Only one prevailed. The teams played games to 21 points or whoever had the most points at the end of 12 minutes.
Bettendorf and PV each had six teams at the tournament. The teams were battling, not only for bragging rights, but also for a trophy to bring back to their school.
In the end, the Haydays were victorious, going undefeated (4-0) throughout the entire tournament. The team included Hannah Uhrich, Karsten Martin, Zach Lewis, Sarah Canfield, Jenna Marxen, and Bennett Soncarty.
The MVP was clear.
“Karsten. He got the job done,” said Lewis.
Agreeing with Lewis, Marxen said, “Karsten. He dove for every ball and was aggressive at the net.”
While the MVP was clear, the captain was undecided among the team.
Lewis said, “Jenna. She set up the team, registered. Kept team spirit up and kept the team motivated.”
While Marxen said, “There was no captain. We were all leaders on the court.”
Although the best part of the rally is debatable, winning is a big part for everyone.
“Playing on a team with my friends and tasting sweet victory,” said Marxen.
Lewis said, “I enjoyed beating the Roostars 21-9. Along with friendly post-tournament scrimmages with the other Bettendorf teams.”
Not only did Bettendorf place in the top three in the rally and brought the trophy home but they also raised $400 for the food bank. The trophy belongs to Bettendorf until next year, when PV will get a chance to win back the trophy.
