Spanish Club promotes Spanish culture

Promoting Spanish culture and learning outside of the classroom, the Spanish Club is an essential club for students at Bettendorf who are looking to grow their cultural awareness. Taking place every Thursday in Adam Hopkins’ room, students gather to take part in different activities that capture different aspects of Spanish culture.
“Mr. Hopkins is a great advisor. He interacts with us but doesn’t take over,” said freshman Renee Nock.
Previous activities include cooking, dancing, taste tests, or going out to different restaurants. All of the events are organized by Melanie Klein and Lydiah Kennedy, president and vice president of Spanish Club.
“Melanie is so passionate about Spanish Club and being a leader,” said Aiyana Bolar.
Through their two years of leading Spanish Club, Klein and Kennedy have worked to improve the club and draw new members in.
“We want to promote Spanish culture and make sure that if kids want the opportunity to learn about it outside the classroom, they have a place to,” Klein said.
Spanish Club is inclusive to all students, not just those who take Spanish classes at school. The leaders are excited for even more improvements to the club and plan to end the year with one last fundraiser and a burrito eating contest between teachers.
Kennedy said, “We’re super excited for what Spanish Club is going to bring next year to the school, and we hope it will continue to grow.”
