A High Schooler's Guide: Staying home for Spring Break

Starting at 3:20 p.m. today, the Bettendorf Community Schools will be out of school until Monday, March 18, for spring break. This week-long break is a great time for students and their families or friends to spend quality time together. If you’re going to be the only person from your 14-person friend group staying home for break, what in the world are you going to do all week?

There are lots of things to keep you busy besides binge-watching Netflix and sleeping all day.

Apply for scholarships: Lots of organizations that have scholarships, for both juniors and seniors, have deadlines in the Spring, and with a whole week of no school responsibilities, it’s the perfect time to fill out applications and write essays.

Work more: If you have a job, but you can only work a small number of hours after school, then this is the perfect week to work more hours. You’ll be able to come in during the day and you won’t have to worry about leaving early.

Get caught up in school: If you have a project due right when break ends, you can start it now and then have less to do when you have school all day. Having more work started, and done, when school resumes will leave you less stressed when teachers add onto the workload.

Spring cleaning: If you’ve been feeling stressed and overwhelmed, maybe having a clean and organized environment would help. A deep clean of your room and getting rid of anything that you really don’t need to keep around would be the best way to get clean and organized. With warm weather finally coming, you can go through your clothes and figure out what you’ll actually wear and what you can sell or donate. If you have a car, you should definitely make sure to clean out all the trash and vacuum to clean up any crumbs you, or your friends, left while eating.
