Foreign exchange students collect glasses

From April 15-26, there will be a box in Student Services where people can donate their old glasses. The glasses collected will then be donated to people in developing countries.

About two billion people globally need glasses but cannot afford to purchase them, an issue that is compounded by the lack of eye care professionals in developing countries to inform people on the exact nature of their visual impairment. To combat this, the high school’s foreign exchange students will be collecting used glasses as part of Youth Make A Difference Day.

“There are no requirements for the conditions of the glasses. After the collection, the eyeglasses will be for a mission trip in Kenya,” said Babacar Niass, the foreign exchange student that is in charge of organizing this project.

If possible, labeling the glasses with the prescription is ideal. The organization will also take cases with the glasses if you are willing to donate them but they are not required.

Contact Danielle Breier in Student Services if you have any questions.
