Blood drive coming soon

The high school’s third blood drive of the year is coming up on May 7. Partnering with the Mississippi Blood Center, the high school typically hosts four blood drives per year. Since the last blood drive was canceled due to the time student had already missed from the “polar vortex days,” it is especially crucial that this drive has a good turn out.

“The blood drive is really important because it's a part of our school culture and each time we donate close to 75-100 units of blood to save lives,” Aidan Goerdt, chair of this blood drive, said.

According to the Red Cross, each unit of blood can save up to three lives. Based on that, 75-100 units equate to 225-300 lives saved from the donations our blood drive provides.

Anybody 16 or older is eligible to donate blood, bearing in mind that 16 year-olds will need to have a parental permission form that they can get from a student council member or from the Mississippi Blood Center website.

“Feel free to donate to the blood drive, they take walk-ins if you have an off block or pass and it's for an amazing cause,” says Goerdt.
