Prom only lasts two and a half hours, but the preparation for it can take the entire day. On May 4, 2019, Bettendorf High School held its 2019 Prom at the River Center. The theme was “Old Hollywood,” and took place from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Hours before the dance, many students spent time preparing their hair and makeup for the dance.
“I had Faith Bonilla do my makeup, and my brother did my hair, so it was a little different than most people, but it worked out well,” said Elizabeth Park, who chose an alternative to booking hair or makeup appointments.
Additionally, there were some students who prepared for prom in the months leading up, by buying dresses and suits.
“I went to Peaches in Chicago to buy my dress two months before. I knew I’d find a dress there because they are so organized,” said Maggie Dixon.
Students took pictures with their friends and dates before the dance as well.
“My group went to Steventon’s to eat; we took pictures there as well,” said Park.
After the dance, most of the attendees went to the school-sponsored After Prom Event, which was held until 2:30 a.m. After Prom featured games, prizes, which every senior received, and a hypnotist show. Food and drinks were also provided, such as a booth with Atomic energy drinks.
“After prom was definitely the best part, the games were fun,” said Ian Silva. “I enjoyed that prom really gave me the opportunity to get to know my friends better.”
“I liked how the event felt very involved and geared toward us students,” said Park.
