Club fair presents opportunities
The annual club fair occurred on Sept. 4, before school, during both lunches, and after school. Clubs had the ability to recruit new members and talk about what they plan on doing throughout the year.
Looking for something to do on Thursdays? Art Club meets every Thursday after school in E103. Art Club creates the homecoming dance murals, posters for the homecoming parade, and various art projects around the school.
Best Buddies meets one Friday morning every month and hosts one event every month as well. The club is a great way to meet new people. Best Buddies first event is Sept. 11, and it’s an ice cream social held from 7-8 p.m. in the commons.
The first Book Club meeting will be announced later this month. There will be a new book picked out every quarter.
Drama Club meets today, Thursday, Sept. 5, and then every other Tuesday. The Drama Club puts on a fall play, a winter show, and a spring musical. They will be performing “Rehearsal for Murder” for the fall play this year. Auditions start Monday.
French Club meets every Friday after school in D268. During meetings, club members typically eat food, play games, and watch French films. In the spring, they host baguette jousting and a trip to Chicago.
FCA meets Wednesday at 7:40 in the PE classroom, F200. This nondenominational club welcomes Bettendorf athletes who want to explore how their faith links to their athletics.
FCCLA is a volunteer club that helps the community. Some of FCCLA’s service projects include writing letters to children in hospitals, making tie blankets, playing games with people in nursing homes, cleaning up parks and the QC Marathon. It is every first Friday at 7:45 in the morning, and there are usually snacks like doughnut holes.
Next Thursday, Sept. 12, will be Key Club’s first meeting in D313. Key Club does community service for different organizations and charities like Gilda’s Club and Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF.
LGBTQ+’s first meeting has yet to be announced, but will meet in Adam Hopkins’ room, D265. Every meeting, members discuss certain subjects like harassment in the workplace, terminology like “transgender” and “deadnaming,” as well as planning fundraisers and attending the annual Iowa Governor’s Conference in Des Moines.
The first meeting for RSVP will be listed in the announcements. The goal of RSVP is to make a bridge of communication between students and administration.
Speech and Debate is a casual club that members show up to practice when they have the time. Practices are usually on Tuesdays or Thursdays, and members prepare for a tournament by researching and preparing to make a case.
Scholastic Bowl meets Tuesdays in Adam Hopkins’ room. During meetings, there are usually food, fun trivia, and buzzers that new members can hit when they know the answers.
Science Club meets every Tuesday at 3:30 in Katherine Hansen’s room, D313. During club meetings, members do fun experiments like elephant toothpaste, egg drops, and bottle rockets.
While not currently accepting members, students can look towards the next year to apply to join the UBett robotics team. The robotics team builds a robot and competes at events around Iowa.
