Bettendorf High School donates 91 units of blood

To kick off the fourth week of the 2019-2020 school year, Bettendorf High School hosted one of many blood drives on Sept. 17. Excitement and waves of anxiety filled the air in the Commons.

Every eight weeks, blood drives are held because that is how often people are eligible to donate. In order to donate, a person has to be 17 years old, or 16 with parental consent, over 110 pounds, and healthy on the day of donation.

A National Honor Society committee helped to set up snack tables piled high with a variety of chips and cookies along with numerous boxes of pizza.

Thanks to new donors and double donors, the blood drive surpassed a set goal of 81 units, ultimately collecting 91 units of blood.

Senior Sarah Rogers said her favorite aspect of the blood drive was “being able to say that out of the 91 units of blood donated, each unit will save three lives.”
