Erin Pestka, the new addition to the math department, teaches geometry and honors geometry. She grew up in Dewitt, Iowa, then attended the University of Northern Iowa to get her math degree in secondary education, and later went back to get her master’s.
Before moving to Bettendorf, she taught in Clinton for 13 years, where she coached track and field, and participated in various clubs.
Pestka decided to pursue a career in teaching after her experiences in high school.
“When I was in high school, I was never really gifted in math. I noticed a lot of people struggled in math, and I wanted to help people through that frustration and struggle,” she said.
Teaching mainly freshmen and sophomores, Pestka enjoys working at the high school.
“The people I work with in the math department are nice, and the students I have in class are good to work with,” she said.
She is looking forward to seeing how Bettendorf differs from her past teaching jobs. With homecoming festivities rapidly approaching, Pestka is excited to experience the Bettendorf pride.
