Band Marches to Geneseo
The Bettendorf Varsity Marching Band ventured to Geneseo this past Saturday, Sept. 21, to perform in their annual competition. Unfortunately, the weather was not on the band’s side, so Geneseo altered the competition to be a stand-still show. The event was held in the school’s gym, where each band stood in a concert arc and played through their show, rather than marching on the field. Although the situation was not ideal, Bettendorf still managed to perform fairly well, placing fifth in their division and fifth overall--with a score of 71.
“I thought it went well, being the first competition. We struggled with the later parts of the show but we overall performed well,” said drum major Aidan Goerdt.
The band is traveling to Linn-Mar this Saturday, Sept. 28, to compete. The weather doesn’t look too promising, but the band is remaining hopeful.
“I am so excited to just keep improving. I’m hoping we can start hosting sectionals for each instrument to hone in on the problems within our sections,” said Goerdt.
Sylvia Otero, Madelaine Williams and Aiden Hamner perform at half-time during the Cedar Falls vs Bettendorf game.
