Boys Golf season comes to a close

Boys golf season is coming to a close. With two meets left, the Bulldogs look to make some improvements for a possible trip to state.

This year has been tougher after state champion, Matthew Garside, graduated. Garside was a key component to a strong Bettendorf team from last year.

“We are not as good as the years before,” senior golfer, David Schwartz, said.

Although the Bulldogs have not seen as much success as years past, they have been able to hold their own.

“We have been good as far as not having Garside. We have dropped strokes and been able to stay in the top of the MAC, ” junior golfer, Maurice Wynn, said.

It is clear the team has one goal for the season.

“We want to go to state,” Schwarts said.

“Everyone is going to need to work on different things individually,” Wynn said.

The golfers can work on things such as putting, driving, and their short game, whatever needs most improvement.

Schwartz’s favorite part of the game is putting.

“That’s where a lot of winning shots come from,” he said.

According to team members, the Bulldog golf team has “had some ups and downs,” but through individual practice the team looks to make plenty of “winning shots” and make a run at state.

The Bulldogs next meet, the MAC championship, is Friday, Oct. 4, in Kewanee, Illinois.

Bulldog golf team takes 3rd place at Blue Top.
