Special Education classrooms flow to language arts wing

An influx of students enrolled in Special Education classes this school year, forcing the Special Education Department to expand into the language arts wing.

Special education teacher Justin Laurer was approached by administration to move his classroom to the journalism lab in order to allow his room to be used by Katie Meyer, a new special education teacher.

“Moving is always a challenge, but both the staff and students have adapted well,” Laurer said.

The move was necessary due to more students being added to the department than there were graduating.

“The students in our department are able to stay until they’re 21, which is why we have so many at times,” Meyer said.

Yearbook/Newspaper made the move from D100 to D115 as D100 is now a new classroom for special education students.

“Moving was a big change for publication due to the loss of space, but we’re adapting well,” Natalie Zanella said.

Students work on individual assignments.
