Bettendorf girls cross country wins MAC meet

For the first time since 2015, the girls varsity cross country team placed first in their MAC championship on Oct. 17, at the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course.

Sophomore Hannah Beintema finished with a time of 19:38, beating her goal time by 11 seconds, and winning the varsity race. Placing second in the varsity race, Sammy Foht finished shortly after Beintema, with a time of 19:47.

Other top 15 finishers respectively included: Sarah Schmidt, Sarah Defauw, Layken Bytnar, and Ella Schmit.

In addition to the varsity race, the girls had the first place finisher in both the JV and fresh-soph races.

Junior Ashlynn Whitcanak won the JV meet with a time of 21:04, and sophomore Amanda Scott won the fresh-soph race with a time of 21:09.

Next Thursday, Oct. 24, the team will run districts at Crow Creek Park, hoping to qualify the whole team to run at state.
