Boys cross country took second place in the MAC championship in Muscatine on Thursday, Oct. 18.
The Bulldogs had a score of 68, behind only Pleasant Valley who scored a 19. Pleasant Valley has won nine straight MAC titles.
The Bulldogs were led by senior runner, Kyler Castro, who ran his 5K in 16:42 to secure the fourth place spot for the Bulldogs. He was followed by Nick Moore (7), Layton Pribyl (13), Aaron Rohr (16), and Carter Wolf (28).
“The meet went really well, we placed three in the top 14 and also won the fresh-soph race,” said junior runner Nick Moore.
The team’s next meet will be the district meet which decides who goes to state. The top three teams, as well as the top 15 individuals, get to make the trip to the state meet.
Last year the only state contestant for Bettendorf was James Baker, but the Bulldogs hope to improve this year.
“We want to make it to state, we haven’t gone in recent history. We have the talent, we just have to do it,” said Moore.
The team has a few days to prepare for the meet and will have to use the short time wisely.
“We need to make sure to get enough rest so the legs are in peak condition for the race,” said senior Jonny Swarm.
The district meet is this Thursday, Oct. 24, and will be here in town, at Crow Creek.
