Although the season did not end the way Bettendorf wanted it to, the Bulldog football team still has plenty to be proud of this year.
The team started the season with a big win over rival Pleasant Valley with a score of 20-6. This was a big confidence builder for the rest of the season and also earned bragging rights for the whole school.
The team finished the regular season with a record of 7-2 which was good enough for second place in the district. It was another winning record for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs played the Linn-Mar Lions in the first round of the playoffs and beat them handily despite playing away from home. Joe Byrne finished the game with 151 rushing yards and 137 passing yards.
The second round of the playoffs came against a familiar opponent in Cedar Falls. The Bulldogs had lost to the Tigers earlier in the year with a score of 35-32. The Bulldogs were eager to get revenge and came out firing.
Harrison Bey-Buie scored two rushing touchdowns and led to the Bulldogs to a 24-14 victory, moving them into the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, Bettendorf met its match against the West Des Moines Tigers. The halftime score was a close game at 7-0 with the Tigers ahead.
In the second half, however, the Tigers quickly extended their lead with multiple touchdown runs.
The score ended 35-7 favoring the Tigers. This ended the Bulldogs’ season with a record of 9-3.
The Bulldogs had another successful season with only three losses to Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, and West Des Moines Valley.
The Bulldogs leading passer was Joe Byrne who threw for 1,476 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The leading rusher was Harrison Bey-Buie with 2,034 yards and 32 touchdowns.
The leading receiver was AJ Douglas who had 432 yards receiving on 37 catches and three touchdowns.
The leading tackler was Ryan Cole who recorded 73.5 total tackles.
The leader in interceptions was Joe Byrne with two.

Bettendorf defeats Burlington 48-13 at the home game on Oct. 4.
