‘The Knight Before Christmas’

“The Knight Before Christmas” is as typical of a movie as one that would be seen on Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas. The movie is about a knight, Sir Cole, who meets an elderly woman in the woods. Of course, even though she is dressed like a sorceress and uses magic in front of him, he has no idea that she is a sorceress.
The sorceress sends him to the future, for a reason that I will explain at the end of the article, where he meets Brooke, a high school science teacher who is disillusioned by love.
Usually during holiday movies, I can suspend reality for a second. I can believe that, sure, this random rough looking man on the street, who spills his coffee on the overworked, holiday-hating, female protagonist, is actually a prince.
But this movie makes no logical sense, even to someone who has seen “Mac and Me” about 10 times.
Despite being launched 600 years into the future, Sir Cole has no issues with getting acquainted with the 21st century. Upon his first few baby steps in the “new world,” Sir Cole gets hit by a car, driven by Brooke.
She meets him at the hospital after a police officer appears, despite the fact no one called the police, and the doctors determined he has a form of amnesia that presents itself as his believing he is a 14th century knight.
Even though he would be better off staying at the hospital where medical officials could keep an eye on his “amnesia,” Brooke seems overly excited to bring him home and have him live with her. Regardless of whether or not he is a serial killer.
Luckily, we know that this is a holiday movie, and that he is actually a knight, but if this was any other genre of movie, it would be very unnerving to know that Brooke would let Sir Cole play with her 10-year-old niece without supervision.
Speaking of Sir Cole, which townspeople refuse to call him ‘Cole,’ leading to constantly hearing “circle” every time they pronounce his name, he refers to hot chocolate as mead, even though mead is a honey-like drink.
He also knows how to drive a car, in spite of calling it a “metal steed,” and an airplane “a flying steel dragon,” which, I take issue with, because even though he is from the 14th century, I am pretty sure dragons still did not exist.
Sir Cole also carries his sword everywhere he goes, which no one in town seems to care about.
Everything I have mentioned takes place in only the first 20 minutes.
At the end of the movie you find out that the reason he is sent to the future is because he needs to complete his quest.
“His quest?” you may be wondering. Yes, his quest, which is to fall in love with a high school science teacher. Why? Who knows.
