Looking for a change, Bella Miletich ended her swimming career and started rowing for the Y QC Rowing program.
Rowing is a team sport that takes place year round. During the outdoor season, Miletich and her teammates compete at rowing competitions. Some of the competitions are local and take place in Des Moines. Other competitions can be as far as New York or Florida.
Races include a 2K and 5K and can be rowed in a single, double, quad or eight person boat.
“I generally compete in singles, doubles, and quads,” Miletich said.
Practices for Miletich’s team take place at the Two Rivers YMCA and are usually twice a day. One practice is at 5:40 a.m., and the other is 4-5:30 p.m.
“To anyone looking to join the sport, the team aspect is great,” Miletich said.
Although her career began later than most, Miletich signed a national letter of intent and committed to continue her rowing career at Jacksonville University.
