Midwest Shootout begins Jan. 17

This weekend, starting Friday, Jan. 17, the Bulldogs are hosting the Midwest Shootout, a two-day wrestling tournament.

Many of the top teams in the state will be represented as well as teams from Illinois.

“It is a super fun tournament that we get to host and luckily it is very tough too, so it is always fun to have some really good teams there and wrestle some good guys,” said senior wrestler Aiden Evans.

Sixteen teams will be represented on Friday including 12 from Iowa and four from Illinois.

Last year at the shootout, Bettendorf finished in third place as a team with 220 team points, behind only Waverly Shell-Rock (284) and Liberty, Missouri (313.5).

“Every team has one goal, and ours is the top of the podium for team and individual. We have a lot of young talent with just the right amount of push. I don’t see anyone getting in our way of accomplishing that,” said senior wrestler Ethan Barry.

The action starts Friday Night at 4 p.m and will cost $5 for admission.
