Staff Spotlight

Alec Clark, a new instructional coach, has been an educator for six years. This is also his fifth year as an athletic coach.

Before coming to the high school, he taught three years at Bettendorf Middle School at the sixth grade level. While at BMS he was also the Student Council advisor and a sports official for basketball, softball, baseball, football, and soccer.

Clark did not like being limited to creating relationships with the students in his classes or the teachers in his house or grade level. Becoming an instructional coach allows him to work with all students and teachers, aiding them in creating a richer learning environment.

“I wanted to become a teacher in order to work with students, give back to the community, and to assist in improving the quality of education. I grew up in the Quad Cities and attended Pleasant Valley High School, and I have always wanted to remain in the area and work to make a difference in the community,” said Clark.

He started his career in the Davenport School District at Garfield Elementary teaching fourth grade. Then, he moved to Lourdes teaching fifth grade and served as their athletic director. After teaching at Lourdes, he then came to Bettendorf Middle School.

“I wanted to teach within the Bettendorf Community School District due to the culture that Bettendorf has. Bettendorf holds high expectations for teachers and students to succeed and the long standing history of academic and athletic success seemed to be a great fit for who I am as a teacher and as an athletic coach,” said Clark.

As an instructional coach, he helps teachers develop instruction for all students. Clark also meets with small groups of teachers to determine what students need and what needs to be accomplished during the upcoming week.

“This first year is a new challenge for me in working with new teachers and staff members and being able to learn from the fantastic faculty and staff at BHS. I look forward to seeing the great work students are doing and will continue to do and being able to work with teachers in accomplishing their goals as well as the goals of all students. This is an exciting time, and I look forward to what the rest of the 2019-2020 school year has to bring,” said Clark.

Clark is also a rabid fan of the Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Phillies, and the St. Louis Blues.
