This past weekend, Jan. 25, 2020, Ella Schmit won the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Girls’ state wrestling tournament in Waverly, Iowa. She was competing in the 106-pound bracket.
In the weeks before the state competition, Schmit was taking extra lessons working on skills she needed to improve on for her finals match or in general. She put in many hours working hard on the mats.
She credits her success to her coaches, family, and friends. The summer of 2020, she plans to go to Fargo to hopefully take home another win.
“I feel accomplished and more confident because I know that I can do anything I put my mind to,” Schmit said.

Schmit pins Ali Gerbracht at the state wresting tournament.
