Boys basketball hopes for smooth second half of season

By Annie Stotlar

Between transitioning to online learning for the beginning of the season and delaying another two weeks due to COVID exposure, the boys’ basketball season began with a rocky start.

Like many fall sports, new rules have been set into place for the season. Masks are to be worn by all players in the locker room, weight room, and during non-live drills and social distancing is practiced in an effort to decrease the chance of another shutdown.

While the team was not able to be on the court together and practice, they made the best of what they could control. Dribbling, shooting, and conditioning drills on their own helped keep the team in shape and in the correct mindset to get back on the court.

With what should have been their sixth week under their belt, the boys are just now preparing for their fourth game of the season against Davenport North on Jan 15.

“We are pretty far behind other teams in the MAC,” said senior Luke Carroll, “but we’re working hard in the gym.”

As the season continues into mid February, the boys are looking to improve and get back into a smoother season. The team is also looking forward to finishing the year with an exciting and successful postseason.

Senior Carter Furness also explained the gratefulness the seniors are feeling with the ability to have a senior season.

“We were all very excited for the season to start. With everything going on, getting back to basketball was something we were all looking forward to.”
