With a rocky start to the first half of the 2021-2022 football season, the Bulldogs are hoping to break through mental barriers and injuries to enjoy a more rewarding second half of the season.
The Bulldogs are learning to deal with the adversities that have been thrown at them the first four weeks of the season.
“This season has gotten off to a slower start than we planned. We have struggled with some injuries which has forced us to move players around to spots they're unfamiliar with,” said starting quarterback Christian Kautz.
“This season has been challenging. We’ve lost some games that we wish we could get back, we’ve really been beating ourselves up this season,” said senior, Tynan Numkena.
Although the Bulldogs do not have the record they were hoping for at this point in the season, senior leadership is staying optimistic.
“I feel like the team atmosphere is still good; it's nice to have fans back in the stadium. I mean it's still fun to play football here and of course I was excited for this season cause last year with Covid there was no one there and this year it's always packed,” said senior Bradley Hill.
Adamant about turning the season around, the Bulldogs are practicing with more purpose.
“I feel that we have only gotten stronger from week to week and the main reason we struggle is from self-inflicted wounds but that stuff gets fixed in practice. If we can lower the amount of mental mistakes we’ll ultimately be more successful come Friday,” said Kautz.
Along with overcoming mental mistakes, the football team is taking the season one week at a time, practicing more seriously, intensifying their energy and confidence, and most importantly, working together to achieve the common goal of making it to the postseason.
“I'm super optimistic and excited for the remainder of the season. We have some tough games but they are games we can win. We have to win out the rest of the season if we want to make it to the postseason,” said Numkena.
