Drama club welcomes back audiences with “Bright Star”
By Laurel Wade
This week the drama club will present “Bright Star,” a musical that takes the audience through a wide range of emotions.
The musical follows three characters in North Carolina during the 1920s and 1940s with the primary focus on Alice Murphy. During the 1920s, Alice is caught up in a teenage romance and later struggles with the painful consequences of her relationship.
Last spring, the drama club planned to present “Shrek the Musical;” however, after quarantine began, the show had to be cancelled. With COVID-19 restrictions fluctuating during the fall of this school year, the drama club opted for an online presentation of the fall play. A full year has passed and the drama club, along with it’s pit and crew counterparts is excited to be on the stage with a live audience once again.
“You will laugh, you will cry, you will not regret buying a ticket. It’s been so long since we have been able to have a live audience, so you should come and experience a bit of normalcy. It would mean a lot to us,” said senior Havyn Fish.
Showtimes for the week of April 12th are 7 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, and 1 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are available for purchase online. Masks and social distancing will be required.
