Bettendorf Bulldogs defeat Pleasant Valley Spartans 20-6

On Friday, Aug. 30, the Bulldogs defeated the Spartans in an exciting season opener for both teams.

The Bulldogs held possession of the ball for almost all of the first quarter with the help of quarterback Joe Byrne and running back Harrison Bey-Buie to keep the play alive. The possession ended with the scoring of a rushing touchdown by Bey-Buie who would score another touchdown towards the end of the first quarter. Reed Shea scored both of the extra points making the score 14-0 to finish the quarter.

The Bulldogs’ defense kept the Spartans scoreless for the first half.

At the start of the third quarter, the Spartans fumbled the ball which was recovered Bettendorf's Noah Abbott. The Spartans had several opportunities to score in the third, but the Bulldogs were able to hold them to one field goal, making the score 14-3 at the end of the third quarter.

The Spartans managed to score another field goal early in the fourth quarter; however, the Bulldogs responded quickly with a run by AJ Douglas. This set the Bulldogs up to score another rushing touchdown by Bey-Buie. The Bulldogs’ defense prevented the Spartans from scoring again with a great fumble recovery by Ryan Cole.

The Bulldogs will take on the Iowa City West Trojans in Iowa City next Friday, Sept. 6.
